Scali Caffe, New York’s new “Tavola Calda” has been designed by Leslie Armstrong to reflect modern Italian decor.
Armstrong used unadorned stainless steel which is increasingly seen as a must-have in contemporary kitchen design.
She also used a large skylight and colorful industrial fixtures to spread the space with light.

Vibrant colours were also used to give the restaurant a bright look. The final design uses red quartz counters, a bar of multicolored glass panels, and patterned wall designs.
In addition, reproductions of works by artist Curtis Ripley cover the walls of the back room, adding contemporary design elements to Scali Caffe.
Alfio Ruocco and Luigi Russo, the owners of Scali Caffe, wanted to share Italian cuisine with downtown residents in a more casual setting.
They hired Armstrong, who has over 25 years of experience as an architect and interior designer and is presently employed as senior architect with d-ash design, to redo the space in modern Italian design.
Scali Caffe is located at 245 Bleecker Street in the West Village.
